Iran to develop its missile capability soon, minister says
Iran condemned on Thursday as arbitrary and illegal reported USA plans for new sanctions on worldwide companies and individuals over Tehran’s ballistic missile program.

A senior Iranian general said country has more than enough missiles to defend itself as the Iranian president called for expanding the defense program.
By backing off sanctions over Iran’s ballistic missile test-and fairly insignificant sanctions at that-the Obama administration has left the impression that, contrary to its repeated pledges, it may not enforce current sanctions or impose new ones should Tehran violate U.N. Security Council resolutions or the nuclear deal.
According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, the US Treasury Department is preparing sanctions on two Iran-linked networks. “The Guards’ naval force had no exercise in the past week when the Americans claim that a missile or rocket was sacked in the Hormuz Strait area”, said Gen Ramezan Sharif.
In October, Iran announced the tests of long-range Emad missile which could be guided and controlled until hitting the target with high precision. US Secretary of State John Kerry described the shipment as “one of the most significant steps Iran has taken toward fulfilling its commitment”.
“I hope the range of Iran’s missiles will exceed 5,000 kilometers with your support soon”, he added, saying that such a move would force the USA to put an end to its meddling policies with regard to Iran’s defense program. Rouhani said Iran would not accept any curbs on its missile program.
According to The WSJ, the White House was recently warned by Iranian officials that new sanctions would be considered by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a violation of the brokered nuclear agreement.
They also put in jeopardy a landmark deal struck in July between Iran and six world powers including the United States, which is due to be formally implemented within weeks.
The US Navy told Al Jazeera in an email that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard test-fired rockets in close proximity to several US and French vessels, as well as commercial ships.
Critics of the planned sanctions had already charged they weren’t an adequate USA response to Iran’s continuing development of its missile program.

Washington contends those actions violate the United Nations resolution, but Iran says that the missiles are not capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and aren’t covered under the ban.
