Iran treaty is our best hope
They continually challenge critics to articulate an alternative to the deal, claiming that there isn’t one. More about the sanctions regime were unraveling long before the deal, more about it was W who started talks with Iran when he was a lame duck president in his last year in office when economy and Iraq was in ruins, because he had to. On review of the details of the agreement, it shows. What sanctions are left – and what more may come – can deal with the other problems of Iran’s bad behavior, in combination with other regional efforts. “It preserves it”. However, oil companies may be reluctant to commit, depending on the terms of any deal and what sort of “snapback” mechanism is available to restore sanctions if Iran violates the terms.

Numerous hawks in Congress have already shown that they need some help from their constituents to focus their attention on the actual facts of the agreement.
“Anywhere, anytime” inspections were once promised by the administration. The congressman noted that Iran never explained its past nuclear work to worldwide inspectors and continues defying demands to do so. Experienced inspectors have questioned how effective a regime so designed can be.
Despite the ban on state-run banks, all Iranian private banks were still connected to the SWIFT system as they were not covered by EU sanctions and could avail themselves of the services provided by the financial network. This agreement also removes the conventional arms embargo against Iran after five years.
Iran will have the cash to pay for them. It amounts to roughly a quarter of Iran’s annual gross domestic product, which totaled $415 billion in 2014. Revolutionary Guard accounts would be flush with Western investment that would go to support Hamas and Hezbollah, the Assad regime in Syria, and Quds Force operations worldwide. Lest opponents forget, in UN Security Council Resolution 1747, the United States in 2007 signed on to the removal of arms-related sanctions on Iran “as soon as [the UNSC] determines, following receipt of [a report from the IAEA saying], that Iran has fully complied with its obligations under the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and met the requirements of the IAEA Board of Governors”. We have extracted a 10-year promise not to weaponize.
However, all this might not have taken place had the US not pushed for a diplomatic solution after years of trying out policies that failed to recognise basic ground realities. It’s NOT a good idea to allow interference in the US legislative process by other nations, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, and some of the Gulf States, or by their lobbyists. Its deceptions over the years rule that out. Dr. Mansour Moazami, Iran’s deputy oil minister for planning and supervision, suggested that Iran’s output would reach nearly twice the 1.2 million barrels per day that it now produces.
We do have the benefit of history to caution us. Instead, in 2006, the rogue state conducted its first nuclear weapons test. However, the danger this agreement addresses – that of a nuclear-armed Iran – is not only a threat to our allies, including Israel, but also to the United States. It is a contest between the Shiite and Sunni sects of Islam for supremacy. Having destabilized the Middle East by killing Saddam Hussein, the U.S. may wish now to leave the areas’ nations alone to sort out the resulting mess.
If we’re not all yet insta-experts on centrifuges and enrichment ratios, the media will ensure that in the next two months-during which Congress will debate and weigh approving the agreement-we’ll become so.
The deal is also a reminder that, despite all the fashionable talk about America’s supposed decline, there is no substitute to the U.S. on the global stage. The asymmetry the French ambassador spoke of still exists and can still bring us a good deal.

In defense of Obama’s approach, the deal’s supporters point out that the Iranians are a “proud, nationalistic people”, which is undoubtedly true, but irrelevant, just as it was for the leadership of Germany’s Third Reich.
