Iran won’t have access to U.S. dollars as sanctions lift, official says

This led Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to declare that no future USA president would be so irresponsible to destroy American credibility and walk away from a multilateral agreement that Iran has not violated.

Shannon said the U.S.is clarifying regulations that allow Iran to access money being made available to it after the sanctions were lifted when implementation of the deal began. In comments following the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, Obama denied speculation that the United States would ease rules preventing dollars from being used in financial transactions with Iran, in order to boost the country’s engagement with the rest of the world. “Iranian access to USA dollars or the US financial system, whether direct or indirect, will only further support these threatening and destabilizing activities”.

Corker said his initial fears about the nuclear accord had come true.

Following Moscow’s refusal to deliver the systems, Iran filed a complaint against the relevant Russian arms manufacturer with the International Court of Arbitration in Geneva.

Mark Dubowitz, an Iran sanctions expert and executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) told the Associated Press that the administration’s plan “is above and beyond what is required by the nuclear deal”.

Shannon said it has not been his intention to say that the US was “walking on eggshells with the Iranians” or “pulling punches”.

“But in that regard, we are very intent on doing everything we can to deter and delay that program, and at the same time work with our partners in the region to ensure that they can protect themselves”, he added. Angry lawmakers, who contend the US was taken advantage of in the deal, have countered that Tehran would be getting more than it deserves from the worldwide nuclear pact reached past year.

Kerry “and other administration officials assured the American people and Congress that UNSCR 2231 still allowed the U.S.to respond to unsafe actions, like these, from the Iranians”, Reps.

The Obama administration warned of dire consequences Tuesday should the next occupant of the Oval Office scrap the Iran nuclear deal.

And he warned that he suspected some U.S. officials “have developed relationships and are trying to bend this in a way that will benefit Iran”.

Several senators, including Democrats Ben Cardin (D – Md.), Chris Coons (D – Del.), and Bob Menendez (D – N.J.), indicated that they believe Congress should impose additional pressure on Iran to push back against its illicit ballistic missile tests.

Iran has yet to see the economic growth it wants from President Obama’s nuclear deal, and it’s demanding additional concessions – above and beyond the agreement – in return for nothing.

“Hard-liners in Iran lost on the nuclear issue”, Shannon said.

Republican leaders appear to be behind the bill.
