Iranian Vessel Conducts ‘Highly Provocative’ Missile Test Near US Warships
“The publication of such false news under the current conditions is more of a psychological warfare and questionable”, Sharif said.

Several Revolutionary Guard vessels fired the rockets “in close proximity” of the warships and nearby merchant traffic “after providing only 23 minutes of advance notification”, said Raines, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command.
The test occurred on Saturday as two U.S ships – the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and the USS Bulkeley destroyer – were in the area, along with a French frigate, said Cmdr.
The official said the rockets were fired on December 26 from an Iranian navy “fast inshore attack craft” that was in Omani waters.
USA officials have said the Treasury Department retains a right under the nuclear agreement to blacklist Iranian entities suspected of involvement in missile development.
For its part, Iran has tested a long-range guided ballistic missile, escalated its cyberespionage program against the United States, and cracked down on journalists, activists and opposition figures.
Iranian media and officials did not immediately discuss the tests Wednesday.
“U.S. Navy forces are committed to ensuring the safe and free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and throughout the region by maintaining a strong presence”, Stephens said.
Gen. Ramezan Sharif, a Revolutionary Guard spokesman, said Thursday his forces didn’t carry out any drills in the key Persian Gulf waterway.
This is the third time that the U.S. Navy has observed Iranian small boats launching rockets within visual range of one of our U.S. carrier strike groups transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran and six world powers – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States – signed a historic nuclear deal in July to imposes limits on the Iranian nuclear program in return for lifting of economic sanctions.
However, the sanctions come in response to Iran’s ballistic missile testing in October and November, which caused both Congressional Republicans and Democrats to call for action.
In April, 11 unguided rockets were fired about 6 miles from the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Iran has always denied seeking nuclear arms.

Under the deal, Iran will also receive natural uranium from Russian Federation and Kazakhstan to be used in nuclear reactors for future energy production.
