Amin, whose father is from Palestine and whose mother is from Iraq, had allegedly been fighting with the militants for a couple of months, Kurdish media reported.

A group of six Islamic State suicide bombers tried to approach a gathering of the Kurdish fighters, and then blew themselves up this morning, police said.

The man had been “lurking near the peshmerga lines” since late Sunday night, according to Maj. Kurdish TV showed the ID cards that apparently identified Amin, who was shown being questioned by Kurdish authorities, CBS said.

Helkani says Amin was carrying with him a large amount of cash, three cellphones and three forms of identification, including a United States driver’s license.

He was arrested after defecting from the terrorist organisation, reportedly believing that the Kurdish front-line was the Turkish border.

Kurdish authorities are holding an American citizen who emerged from ISIS territory, a Kurdish official told CNN Monday.

Local officials in the town of Taza in Iraq’s north say a recent attack injured more than 600 people.

He was in custody of Kurdish officials in the city of Erbil, where there is a large USA military pressence.
