Iraq says it has hit the convoy of the chief of Daesh in an airstrike in the western Anbar Province.

A military statement said: ‘Iraqi air forces have bombed the convoy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was heading to Karabla to attend a meeting with Daesh (ISIS) commanders.

Iraqi security sources have previously claimed several times that Baghdadi had been injured or killed in strikes but the claims were either never verified or later denied.

Karabla is a village located between the towns of Al Qaim and Husaybah, which are right on the border with Syria.
