Arsenal beat Leicester twice last season, with the Foxes only losing one other league game to win the title by 10 points.

Fans are close to being fed-up with Wenger’s passive approach to landing key transfer targets – but he has responded to the outcry with a promise to Arsenal fans.

“‘Spend the money” in itself is not the quality”, Wenger said in response to the chants.

“I’m a bit fed up saying the same thing when people say we do not want to spend. You should be happy; he is English, he is 20 years old, but I’m sorry he didn’t cost £55m, so it can not be good”.

Wenger added sarcastically, “But I’m sorry he didn’t cost 55 million, so he can not be good”.

“It was a fight until the end and you could see Leicester have some mental qualities and that explains why they were champions past year”. “So I don’t think there’s a problem to attract players”.

“Not to forget as well that we are a club who has 600 employees who we need to have a responsible attitude for as well. But at the end of the month, you have to respect everyone who works for the club”.

Speaking after Lyon’s 2-0 win over Caen last night, in which he scored both goals, the 25-year-old said: “There is relief because it proved complicated against Caen who had come to annoy us playing ball”.

Wenger added that he was happy with the chances created against Leicester and is optimistic that they will converted into goals as the season progresses.
