IRGC rejects rocket test near USA warships
Iran denied on Thursday that its Revolutionary Guards launched rockets near a US aircraft carrier in the Gulf on Saturday and condemned USA plans for new sanctions over its ballistic missile programme.

The ships, including the USS Harry S. Truman and the FS Provence, a French frigate, were passing through the strait when the Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessels hailed them over maritime radio and announced a live-fire exercise.
“The publication of such false news under the present circumstances is akin to psychological warfare”, Sharif was quoted as saying by Reuters.

In the five months since the nuclear deal curtailing Tehran’s nuclear ambitions was struck, USA officials say Iran has conducted two ballistic missile tests, one of which state media reported at the time, on October 11.
The US said the rockets were not fired in the direction of vessels from the US or any other state.
In Washington, Commander Kyle Raines said the action was “highly provocative, unsafe and unprofessional”.
An Iranian Revolutionary Guards spokesman dismissed the USA claim as a “psychological operation”.
Sharif said the security of the strategic Persian Gulf remains among Iran’s top priorities.
The dispute comes after Iran and six world powers, including the US, reached a historic deal in July that will remove certain US, EU, and United Nations sanctions on Tehran in exchange for Iran accepting curbs on its nuclear program.
For its part, Iran has tested a long-range guided ballistic missile, escalated its cyberespionage program against the US, and cracked down on journalists, activists and opposition figures.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the US Treasury Department is in the process of crafting the sanctions against individuals and companies in Iran, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates who are thought to have helped Iran develop its missile program.

Adam Szubin, the acting undersecretary of the Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, wrote in a statement circulated on Capitol Hill that the USA “will vigorously press sanctions against activities” outside of the nuclear deal.
