Irish break into top 4 in College Football Playoff rankings
After a 20-point loss to Oklahoma State, TCU took a tumble from No. 8 to No. 15.

LSU dropped seven places to No. 9 in the second College Football Playoff selection committee rankings released Tuesday evening.
The Tigers (7-1, 4-1 in SEC) tumbled after a 30-16 loss at Alabama and going into Saturday’s matchup at home with unranked Arkansas (5-4, 3-2). That would put LSU in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game on December 5 in Atlanta against SEC East champion Florida (8-1), which is No. 11 in the CFP poll.
Oklahoma State still behind other teams? .
STILL SPECIAL TEAMS PROBLEMS: On four kickoff returns against Alabama Saturday, LSU returner Derrius Guice failed to get to the 20-yard line, and usually not even close to it. He was stopped at his 9-yard line, 10, 15 and 16. 500 against the Tigers because of when the second win came – would have.
Consider, if you will, a hypothetical.
– Baylor remained sixth after a road win at Kansas State (3-5). Should the Hawkeyes win out against Minnesota, Purdue and Nebraska, and advance to the Big Ten championship game, they could potentially stand a victory against defending champion Ohio State away from making the playoff.
Notre Dame’s only loss is to the #1 team in the rankings, which is Clemson. Florida wins out, beating Alabama in Atlanta.
Iowa, on the other hand, has played just three programs this entire season whose record is better – at this point – than one game above.500.
So where does this leave Notre Dame?
Disputing the idea Notre Dame is in if it wins out: On the ESPN rankings show, analyst Kirk Herbstreit strongly opined that No. 4 Notre Dame will make the playoff if it wins out. As much ass it pains me to say it, the Fighting Irish could get another shot at Clemson while the Pac-12 and Big-12 stay out of the top of the rankings.
Long basically said, that when talking about why an undefeated Baylor was behind Notre Dame and Iowa.

And, Long said, among the undefeated teams, Iowa’s strength of schedule ranks behind only Clemson’s. I’m sorry, but a one-loss power five program should be ahead of mid-tier programs with one loss. However, when it comes to the rankings that truly matter, Brian Kelly’s bunch finds itself in a position to punch a ticket to the second-ever College Football Playoff. “We still feel like they’re a strong team”. Stanford must win out, or Utah must win out and hope Stanford loses to Notre Dame. Florida. While Mississippi’s struggles are hurting Florida, surely, the Gators did beat the Rebels, and it makes less sense to consider that win an anchor than it should to consider a loss to USC one. So at most, the Big 12 could have one unbeaten team which is key for Notre Dame as an unbeaten Big 12 champ could end up leap frogging Notre Dame even if the Irish win out.
