Jason Cierans was enjoying an evening out with friends when he struck in what’s thought to be yet another alcohol-fuelled attack at around 1am.
He was treated by New South Wales ambulance paramedics at the scene and brought to St Vincent’s Hospital with serious head injuries.
Jason Cierans, 29, is in an induced coma after two men who did not know him, started a brawl at 1am on Saturday outside a 7/11 convenience store.
Witnesses told 9NEWS the fight was sparked when the victim’s friend was accused of jumping the queue outside a nightclub.
Two men have been detained by the Sydney Police since the incident occurred.
Mr Martinez was arrested at the scene and taken back to Waverley police station, where a 27-year-old man was charged with affray and granted conditional bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on September 24.
