Iron Maiden “Speed of Light”
Welcome back, Iron Maiden! If that’s not the most metal thing I’ve written in a while, I don’t know what is.

As a matter of fact, the potency of Iron Maiden’s influence extends well beyond the ethereal and intangible realm of music, as the group has also impacted the gaming world as well. A year ago was when I first discovered the beauty that was Iron Maiden, and realized I’d been missing out for twenty eight years of my life on music that was handsome.
The quick-paced cut wraps Bruce Dickinson’s air siren wail and some crunchy guitarwork around a visual narrative starring the band’s beloved undead mascot, Eddie.
Later, Eddie gets transported to the 16-to-32-bit era to revisit the band’s Somewhere in Time imagery, as he blasts bad guys away à la side-scrolling shooters like Contra. The two duke it out in bloody fashion until Eddie performs a fatality straight out of Mortal Kombat, holding his opponents severed head up as blood spurts from The Beast’s neck. There’s a broader split on the song-writing compared to previous MAIDEN records, with bassist and founder member Steve Harris contributing to seven of the tracks; six of them with MAIDEN’s guitarists and one sole composition.
