IRS Repeats Warning on Phone Scams
Police in Wyoming and Kentwood are investigating recent reports of Internal Revenue Service scams. The “scam” tells victims they owe taxes and must go to their bank and pay by money order or a Green Dot card immediately, or run the risk of being arrested. The threats include jail time, deportation, or the suspension of the victim’s business or driver’s license.

Sheriff deputies say they’ve received several calls about the scam, leading them to believe the number of scam calls are on the rise. If you have questions, call the IRS directly from the number on their website. And this complex scam goes even further.
If you receive such a call or if you receive a letter and you have doubts whether it’s legitimate you should call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040 and speak to an IRS agent.
-Beware of any caller claiming to be from the IRS and demanding money.
The IRS says they do not make their first contact through phone calls, nor will they ask for credit or debit card information over the phone.
The police are reminding residents to never give out your personal details, banking information, passwords, or access to your computer to any unknown person, agency, or company.

Investigators say most of the calls are coming from a 202 area code.
