Irsay says Colts’ Mewhort expected to miss 2-4 weeks
In Saturday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mewhort left early with an injury. At first, it was reported by Ian Rapoport that he’d torn his ACL and was out for the entire season.

Tweeted Irsay: “Mewhort 2-4 weeks/No Surgery (Initial test results); plenty of work to do for this new Coaching Staff and new infusion of Player additions”. It appears Mewhort escaped with a knee sprain. He finished the drive, but was favoring his knee.
That’s the best possible scenario for the Colts given the circumstances, as reports indicated that it was a season-ending injury for the team’s best offensive lineman.
The 2014 second-round pick has been one of the Colts’ steadiest offensive linemen. He’s started 19 games the past two seasons. Mewhort’s absence will sting the left side of the line, which was supposed to be the bedrock of the blocking unit this season.
“I’d be lying if I said personally I’m not going to miss him next to me”. Again, I’m not going to make any excuses, but we’ve got some guys out of there right now that have been in there. “There were some decent plays made here and there but we’ve got to be better obviously”. Rookie Joe Haeg would be the ideal candidate, but he’s out with an ankle injury. “But that being said, we’ll definitely miss Jack if he’s out for any significant time”. He still has a protective boot on the foot and recently has used a scooter to help navigate the locker room. With Joe Reitz (back) out, there were two rookie starters (center Ryan Kelly and right tackle Le’Raven Clark) along with second-year player Denzelle Good at right guard.
Good’s experience consists of four starts at right tackle in 2015.
Preseason scores might not matter, but the Indianapolis Colts suffered the worst kind of loss Saturday night. Instead, while he’ll miss some time, he should be back in a few weeks.

“It’s always concerning every time he’s on the ground, ” Castonzo said. Luck completed 13 of 18 passes for 134 yards, but did not return in the third quarter, presumably because coach Chuck Pagano did not want to put him at additional risk. “I know what we are capable of”. So from a continuity standpoint it makes a difference having five guys in there that have been in there day after day and week after week playing together.
