Is Madison Keys the next American tennis star?
It will be her fifth appearance in the semis of the event – and only the sixth grand slam semi of her career. Her father and coach, Piotr Wozniacki, told a Danish outlet that his daughter could retire at the end of 2016 or 2017.

“I know that when I play my best I’m tough to beat and I just do my thing”, said the 74th-ranked Wozniacki, who will next meet Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, a 6-4 7-5 victor Britain’s Johanna Konta. He reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, the finals at Rotterdam and Monte Carlo and the title trophy at the Citi Open in Washington. Kerber has been a rock all season and we’ve made a lot of money backing her during the process.
“You kind of just put it in the back of your mind and use it to fuel yourself and get back out there and try to get better”.
Sevastova had never been past the fourth round of a slam, and her best result in NY were second-round berths in 2009 and 2010, but her run this year was one of the best storylines of this year’s tournament.
Heading into the US Open, she was not considered among the favorites; in fact, conventional wisdom had her pegged for a short stint, not unlike her cameo showing at Flushing Meadows past year and similar to her most recent hardcourt exploits in Washington, Rio de Janeiro, and CT.
As for the match, Sevastova spent most of it hobbled, having her ankle taped after the third game.
Konta has powered past opponents with her serve and off the ground during this US Open, but against the Latvian looked to have trouble establishing a rhythm due to her opponent’s mix of slices, drop shots and net approaches between penetrating ground strokes.
But one thing Keys has proved this week is you can never count her out.
“I’m not surprised that I could make it this far because I always believe in myself and I always think that when I got on court I always believe that I’ll win the match”. “It’s unbelievable to be back”.
The Japanese world No.81 was in tears several times, a distraught Osaka at one point hanging her head and covering her eyes as she walked to a corner of the court.
“I think it was a tough match, Petra is a really great player”.
Djokovic has completed just nine sets in the tournament and played just 84 games. Porzingis did not attend Tuesday night’s match, but the retired Shaquille O’Neal did.
Sevastova, playing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final, never recovered from falling and turning her right ankle in the second game of the opening set.
“I was injured on and off and it was hard to play”, said Sevastova, who un-retired at the beginning of past year after quitting the game due to injuries.
“She’s a great player”.
Whether mental or physical, Sevastova clubbed a host of subpar shots. This success may be what was needed to get Wozniacki back on track. The Latvian batted a bunch of routine backhands and forehands into the net or wide.
Caroline Wozniacki cruises, dropping only two games against Anastasija Sevastova to march on to the semifinals of the US Open.
Former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic says she’ll take the rest of the season off because of wrist and toe injuries. The German leads their career head-t0-head 7-5.
“I don’t know. This is the question you’re going to ask me now?” a smiling Vinci said good-naturedly.
“When I have my knee, of course, it’s already tough to play against one of the best tennis players”. Now, I go out there knowing how to win big matches.

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has become the third of Novak Djokovic’s opponents to have his US Open run ended by injury, handing the Serb a spot in the semi-finals.
