On Tuesday, a USA official said the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking into news reports quoting patrons of Pulse as saying Mateen frequented the nightspot and reached out to men on gay dating apps.

Hopper said agents had investigated Mateen in 2013 and again in 2014 regarding terror threats, but in both cases insufficient evidence was found to pursue charges.
