Lately, the flagship category of smartphones is under major scrutiny due to the Note 7 fiasco. They even took some time out of the presentation to show how good gaming performance is on the iPhone 7.

TechCrunch writer (and former Apple employee) Darrell Etherington responded that his “brand new, just-unboxed [device is] doing the same thing right now”.

Users are slowly getting their hands on their pre-ordered iPhone 7s and iPhone 7 Pluses, and some of them are already complaining of hissing noises.

The behaviour was first noted by blogger Stephen Hackett, who posted a video of the sound while his iPhone restored from a backup.

Hackett wrote in a blog post that AppleCare chose to replace his phone.

According to The Telegraph, the issue is being linked to the phone’s new A10 Fusion processor, which was meant to make the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus twice as powerful as the iPhone 6. The hissing sound that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are making could be because of the latest A10 processor while the predecessor used an A9 chip. I guess this is Hiss-gate?

Technology website iMore said the noise is nothing to worry about and pointed out many devices make noises when they’re going through heavy processing activity, which uses more power. Some are suspecting a coil whine or similar electromagnetic effects though the cause is not yet known, reports Endgadget. If you’re suffering from the same problem, try taking your device to a Genius Bar to get a replacement once supplies become available.

But not all owners of the widely-frothed phone are reporting the issue.
