Is Trump out of line with Khans?

Khan, a Pakistani immigrant, last Thursday stood next to his wife accusing Trump of vilifying patriotic American Muslims, saying that if the Republican had his way his son, Capt. Humayun Khan, would never have been in America. McCain, who has been a target of Trump’s unhinged commentary in the past, said: “I can not emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement”. “Those who have given the last full measure of devotion – he denigrates their service, he denigrates their families”. But the Arizona Republican Senate primary just got a lot closer to the head-to-head race that Ward wants with McCain.

“Let me say something else about this generation”.

In Twitter messages, other Republicans joined McCain in condemning Trump.

Khizr Khan, whose speech at the Democratic National Convention about his slain son has garnered admiration from Democrats and some Republicans, but ire from Donald Trump, says the candidate needs to have “patience and tolerance for criticism”. “You have sacrificed nothing and no one”, Khizr Khan said.

“If you look at his wife, she was standing there”.

She says she chose not to speak because she was too overcome with emotion.

“Donald Trump needs to move his understanding of Islam and Muslims beyond the stereotypes”, Rabiah Ahmed, MPAC media director, said. “I believe that was a mistake”.

Flags or banners with a blue star were first flown by families during World War I, according to information posted on the Army’s website. “While our Party has bestowed upon him the nomination, it is not accompanied by unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”.

In a statement to ABC, Graham said, “There used to be some things that were sacred in American politics – that you don’t do – like criticizing the parents of a fallen soldier even if they criticize you”.

“We feel we must speak out and demand you apologize to the Khans, to all Gold Star families, and to all Americans for your offensive, and frankly anti-American, comments”, they said in an open letter. “There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can fix once crossed”.

“This indicates the lack of thoughtfulness on the candidate’s part”, Khizr Khan said. Even Republicans can’t get behind this one, and that could seriously hurt his campaign.

The couple agreed that the best apology for Trump’s actions would be for his supporters to repudiate him. “It hurt so much”.

As a Muslim woman, and as the leader of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, I reject the Islamophobia and stereotyping that underlie Trump’s false implications and smears.

McCain was among several lawmakers – many facing re-election this fall – who distanced themselves from Trump’s comments Monday. Lacayo is former vice chair of the San Francisco Republican party and said Trump was only defending himself.

Trump is refusing to back down, complaining anew that he had been “viciously attacked” by the Khans. “Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?” she wrote. I’ve never been in that situation.

On Monday, Blunt advised Trump to “focus on jobs and national security and stop responding to every criticism whether it’s from a grieving family or Hillary Clinton”. “They continue to inspire us every day, every moment”, he said.

“Hillary Clinton to their faces lied to them about the reason for the deaths”, he said. And the problems with Trump go far beyond dust-ups over policy.

“And as I have long made clear, I agree with the Khans and families across the country that a travel ban on all members of a religion is simply contrary to American values”, Mr McConnell said. “It is one more example of Sen”.
