A devastating suicide truck bomb blast claimed by the so-called “Islamic State” killed almost 50 people and wounded at least 150 in the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishli on Wednesday, the deadliest attack to hit the largely Kurdish city since the Syrian conflict began.

Dozens of people have been injured in the twin blasts, which have been claimed by ISIS. A truck packed with explosives first blew up near the Turkish border.
Syrian state TV reported two bombs went off, while SANA news agency said a auto bomb was used in the attack.
The attack has been categorized as one of the deadliest in the city, at least, for the last months.
A video aired by the Syrian state TV channel showed a pillar of grey smoke rising from the explosion site.
A suicide bombing killed 44 people, including women and children, Wednesday in northern Syria, state media reported.
Husen, the media activist and photojournalist, said fires erupted in some buildings and overturned cars.
Abdel Rahman told dpa earlier a auto bomb targeted the Justice Department and Kurdish internal security force in the town, which is located in al-Hasaka province.
The latest attack comes amid intense fighting in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, where more than 50 people have been killed in recent days. Rescue teams are working to find people under the rubble.
Hospitals across Qamishli have put out urgent calls for the donation of all blood types in the wake of the attack.
The monitoring group said the bombing was followed by a second explosion.
The Syrian town of Qamishli, right on the Turkish border, is controlled by Kurdish militia.
In retaliation, the militant group has claimed a series of attacks it said were against members of the worldwide coalition that have been fighting against it.

There’s also a significant presence of the Kurdish-U.S backed democratic forces that are fighting on the northern side of the country against the Islamic State.
