ISIS “threat” at Sterling Heights Meijer was a misunderstanding
“As they’re walking out of the store, they started talking about world events going on and ISIS”, Sterling Heights police Lt. David Smith told the Macomb Daily.

Police either got some wrong information or incorrect information about a conversation between an employee and a shopper at the store located at Van Dyke and 16 Mile.
A customer who bought a new backpack, and asked a Meijer employee where to leave his old one, mentioned a terrorist group.
“It was a big nothing and it was fairly innocent”, Smith said.
An employee returning shopping carts found the backpack in the parking lot and put it in the lost and found. The customer and clerk were in a conversation about the recent ISIS related events.
It was originally reported that the customer made a comment about ISIS while arguing with managers over Lunchables, and then threw a backpack over the counter.

The call led the Meijer to close despite an actual threat, the bomb squad was even brought in but nothing was found and the store later re-opened. That did not happen, Smith said.
