Islamic State claims deadly Baghdad blast

At least four people were killed and 18 others wounded on Sunday in a suicide bomb attack at Shiite neighborhood in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a police source said. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.

The terrorist group claimed it was targeting Shia militia members.

– Reuters picBAGHDAD, Sept 25 ― A suicide bomber blew himself up in a commercial street of Baghdad today, killing seven and wounding 28, police sources said, as Islamic State steps up attacks in Iraq.

Ashoura annually draws hundreds of thousands of Shiite pilgrims to Iraq, particularly the holy city of Karbala, where Imam Hussain is buried.

Another 19 people were wounded in the attack.

Iraqi forces are preparing for a push on Mosul, the last IS-held city in the country, after regaining much of the Iraqi territory the jihadist group seized in June 2014. Iraqi officials say they hope to launch an operation to retake the city by the end of the year.
