While this particular test was done by NYC Health officials, the CT DPH Laboratory has been approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to perform two separate levels of testing for the Zika virus, giving patients and their physicians the ability to receive test results in a matter of days. Hear what the woman who got Zika says about her ongoing symptoms.
The virus poses a serious risk to pregnant women and has been linked to several birth defects, including Microcephaly, in which the baby’s head is abnormally small and can have brain damage.
On Monday, the US Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC) issued a zika virus travel notice for Belize. The virus is transmitted to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito. Of the 388, 33 were in pregnant woman, eight are sexually transmitted and one case of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Democrats and Obama administration officials have urged the Republican-controlled Congress to grant almost $1.9 billion in emergency funds to combat Zika, a virus borne by mosquitoes that can cause microcephaly, a rare birth defect.
Dr. Tomas Aragon, San Francisco’s Health Officer, said in a statement that the Zika virus poses no threat to residents.

“If requested by a worker, consider reassigning workers who indicate they are or may become pregnant, or male workers who have a sexual partner who is or may become pregnant, to indoor tasks to reduce their risk of mosquito bites”, the CDC said in a news release.
In addition, to avoid the spread of the disease, it was recommended for infected people to also avoid mosquito bites by wearing clothing that covers the skin. As part of the school’s Town and Gown Reading and Lecture Series, Kimberly Hale, a QU professor in biology, will give an hourlong presentation on the Zika virus starting at 7 p.m.in Room 432 of Francis Hall. He told French broadcaster BFMTV: “The climatic conditions, local conditions and hygiene conditions in favor of the spread of the virus in Latin America are not present at all in the south of Europe”.
