Israel doctor: Palestinian hunger striker improving

Palestinians frequently use hunger striking as a method to oppose Israeli policy against detainees.

“There is a lot of tension in the Palestinian street, and it may cause maybe a revolution or a hard reaction”, Ajami told WND in an interview.

He added, It is time to reverse the perilous tide that we are now facing and restore, to Israelis and Palestinians alike, the hope that is in danger of being stifled by those promoting their hate driven agendas.

The former PA minister was offering his own personal analysis and was not himself intending to make threats. Suspected of ties to a militant group, he was held with no charges, no lawyer and no accusations to face in court.

He ended by noting the “risk of escalation in Israel and Palestine is palpable”, saying “the past month has witnessed unconscionable crimes of hatred by extremist elements, reprehensible retaliatory violence, provocations at Jerusalem’s holy sites, and a worrying increase in rockets launched from Gaza towards Israel.”

Rights groups say global law allows for such detention under extreme circumstances, but that Israel uses it as a punitive measure that circumvents the justice system or as a crutch to avoid trial.

The stirring 13-part series “Against All Odds – Israel Survives: The Complete First Season” dramatizes awe-inspiring incidents that pose the question: Does a divine power continue to uphold the country?

A Palestinian held without charge by Israel ended his unprecedented 66-day hunger strike Thursday, his lawyer said, after the Supreme Court ordered him released from detention.

Khatib spoke after visiting Allan in hospital in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon and said his health was improving, though he remained bedridden.

It also reported that The Israeli High Court’s decision was based on his medical condition alone – -the results of the MRI scan – and “took no account of the legality of his detention”.

On Wednesday, Israel’s Supreme court suspended the detention order against Allan, releasing him while he receives medical care. Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Wednesday that Allan’s release “would constitute a reward for his hunger strike and could encourage mass hunger strikes among security detainees”.

Instead of ending the practice of administrative detention, which is illegal under worldwide law, the Israeli Parliament last month approved a bill that would allow authorities to force-feed huger strikers.

Palestinian authorities say Israel has offered to release Allan in November, at the end of his second six-month interval, but activists have continued to push for immediate freedom. Prisoners and detainees who are also on hunger strike would be forcefully fed.

He argued that if Israel does not force feed Allan, “You are going to have a constant breakdown within any of your institutional settings there”.

Thus, they call the hunger strike tactic the new type of suicide terror attack. That’s exactly what happened at Guantanamo and things got totally out of control.
