Wait did she try or did she intend? When asked if she had come to kill Jews, and she reportedly said yes. And while the violence, the alleged stabbings e.g.in al-Wiwi’s case, can not be justified, Israeli authorities need to understand there’s a deeper underlying problem that’s causing 12-year-olds to throw rocks at or stab soldiers physically much stronger than them who also carry military-grade weapons.
Moments after meeting her relatives, Al-Wawi said she missed chatting to her mother, sisters and friends at school the most.
Al-Wawi was arrested 75 days earlier at the entrance to the Israeli settlement of Karmei Tzur near Hebron for being in possession of a knife.
Al-Wiwi was tried in a military court where she pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter and was sentenced to four-and-a-half months in prison.
Her lawyer Tariq Barghouth posted on Facebook, “She is the youngest Palestinian girl ever imprisoned”.
Meanwhile, Israel has accused radical leaders of inciting youths to violence and notes that boys as young as 11 have launched knife attacks against Israelis. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan in the 1967 Middle East war, and Palestinian residents there are subject to a system of military law that can sentence suspects as young as 12 to prison.
In Israel, the country’s prison service confirm the release, yet has declined to comment on the move. More than 100 of these children are between 12 and 15, while 12 are girls and seven are in administrative detention. By comparison, 195 minors were incarcerated in December 2012, the group said. The new report out on Israel’s practice of detaining Palestinian children without charges, from Defense for Children International.
A 12-year-old Palestinian girl, imprisoned by Israel after she confessed to planning a stabbing attack on Israelis in a West Bank settlement, returned home Sunday after she was freed following an appeal.
Over 400 Palestinian children are now detained in Israeli jails, according the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
