The policeman was directing traffic after a tree fell and blocked a road in the town of Auja, in the Jordan Valley north of Jericho, when he was stabbed in the shoulder, police said.

One victim suffered a wound to his neck and the other had light injuries, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service. A large amount of soldiers were dispatched to the area to search for the attackers.

“A knife was found in the assailant’s vehicle”, the Israeli military said.

Palestinian leaders say many Palestinian attackers have acted out of desperation in the absence of movement towards creation of an independent state. It gave no further details.

The Israeli central court on Wednesday sentenced a 14-year-old Palestinian teen from Jerusalem to 18 months in prison for throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at an illegal Israeli settlement outpost, the teenager’s lawyer told Ma’an.

Israel has rejected those allegations, saying it has been preventing lethal attacks on civilians and security forces.

A recent wave of tension broke out between Palestinians and Israel last October, killing over 180 Palestinians and about 30 Israelis.
