Israel’s vice premier Silvan Shalom has resigned: state media
Israel’s interior minister has resigned after 11 women lodged sexual harassment complaints against him, the second such scandal in a month for Binyamin Netanyahu’s rightwing government.

According to The Star, PM Silvan Shalom rendered his resignation on Sunday to protect his mother, wife and five children from more disgrace.
Netanyahu, speaking at the Likud faction meeting, said that Shalom made the right decision to quit and thanked him for his accomplishments in office. “My family fully supports me, but there is no justification for the price asked of them”. The talks stalled previous year and Shalom had spoken out in the past against a Palestinian state.Shalom is married to journalist Judy Nir-Moses, a member of one of Israels most prominent families. She chose not to go to police.
Mr Shalom’s long run in power finally ran out of steam last week as a new serious of allegations, mainly involving young women who were employed in the ministries he headed, surfaced.
Israel’s center-right ruling party will appoint its first ever openly gay lawmaker after a top Member of the Knesset (MK) had to step down in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
Two years ago, there were similar allegations against Shalom but the police closed the case due to a lack of evidence.

In 2011 the former President Moshe Katsav began a seven-year jail sentence for rape.
