Israel says new eastern W.Bank settlement plans invalid
Israel’s government has renewed planning for a controversial settlement in the occupied West Bank only a year after it was forced to suspend its expansion, according to Israeli activists.

Palestinian terrorists opened fire from a moving vehicle on Israeli border police forces in the Qalqilya area of the West Bank near the village of Beit Daku.
One of many plans underway would place 800 housing units between Palestinian areas of Al-Jib and Biddu, connecting the illegal Givat Zeev settlement to Jerusalem, preventing a potential Palestinian West to East corridor, Peace Now said.
“For these reasons, whenever an Israeli leader tries to promote the plans in E1, the global community strongly condemns them”, Peace Now wrote.
The Peace Now group says it has obtained official documents through Israel’s freedom of information laws that show the housing ministry secretly hired architects plan homes in the E1 area of the West Bank, despite the project’s cancellation in 2013 under worldwide pressure.
“They must be approved by the minister of defence and then go through the approval process of the planning authority”, the English-language report said. The latest round of US-brokered peace talks collapsed in April 2014.
Settlement construction in both of these locations would, in effect, sever a future Palestinian state from East Jerusalem, and make a negotiated two-state solution impossible. They say that Israeli settlement construction on the lands they claim is a sign of bad faith.
It later annexed east Jerusalem in a move never recognised by the global community.
The bill also comes at a time of heightened tension between Israelis and Palestinians and frequent attacks, of which two occurred Sunday.
Elsewhere in the West Bank, the Israeli military said a Palestinian motorist rammed his auto into a checkpoint on Saturday and lightly wounded a soldier stationed there.

For over three months Palestinians have carried out near daily attacks on Israeli civilians and security forces including stabbings, shootings, and auto ramming attacks.
