The Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike in the area in retaliation to rockets which Israel said were fired on Thursday by militants from Syria.
‘Aircraft of the Israeli enemy targeted a civilian vehicle in the village of al-Kom, killing five unarmed civilians, ‘ Syrian state television said on Friday.
Israeli military sources said their air force and artillery pounded Syrian army compounds about six times, while two of their rockets struck open areas in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Despite allegations coming from Israel, the Islamic Jihad denies any involvement about the recent rocket attack that is being pinned on them.
Syrian state TV reported that an air raid just before midnight Thursday in the southern region of Quneitra killed a soldier and wounded seven.
A source in the Israeli army told Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper that the rockets landed near cooperative farming villages in the Upper Galilee and did not result in any injuries. According to reports, at least one person has been killed.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon warned that Israel would respond decisively to any aggression on the northern border.
Though Israel has no plans to “escalate” the situation, Netanyahu’s office will uphold its policy.
“The IDF holds the Syrian government responsible for all attacks emanating from Syrian territory”. Israel has avoided taking sides in the Syrian civil war, which pits the regime of Bashar Al Assad against an array of militants, including ISIL.
The attack Israel is pinning on the Islamic Jihad movement “with Iranian funding and direction”, occurred Thursday.
The western media, which usually gives Israel a free pass in almost everything it does, was actually a bit skeptical about the latest Israeli announcements concerning these attacks on Syria. “It’s up to the countries that are rushing to Iran to know that it was an Iranian commander who sponsored the squad that fired against Israel”.

Israel has been anticipating an uptick in attacks from Iran’s proxy groups in Syria since the U.S. signed a nuclear deal with Iran last month.
