The Israeli army said clashes erupted during a military operation in the town, claiming local residents threw stones and firebombs at the force, and that soldiers reciprocated with riots dispersal means, including live fire.

According to Palestinian reports, the assailant was identified as Issa Arafat, an 18-year-old resident of Beit Umar.
The shooting comes a day after three Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank – two shot dead during protests.
