Israel uncovers illegal Palestinian weapons making network

Since the start of the year, Israel has seized dozens of weapons, shuttered arms-making factories and arrested weapons dealers in a clampdown in the West Bank meant to quell a spate of Palestinian violence.

Hermann said she was surprised by the higher fear level on the Israeli side, and cited a number of factors.

The bombardment sparked a new diplomatic row between Israel and Turkey, who have recently drawn up a landmark reconciliation agreement six years after the Israeli navy killed 10 Turkish civilians on a flotilla trying to break the Gaza blockade. Most recently, it has been used by the Israeli military. The findings come as Israeli authorities have confirmed that they granted permission to plan the expansion of an Israeli settlement in the West Bank city of Hebron.

In mid-May, Sisi urged both the Palestinians and the Israelis to take historic steps towards peace, saying that if efforts are combined, a solution can be reached “to find hope for the Palestinians and security for the Israelis”.

UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, called on Israel for a full investigation into the killing of a Palestinian teen by Israeli forces during an unprecedented raid into al-Fawwar refugee camp last week that left dozens others injured by Israeli fire. Some 89% of Palestinians feel Israeli Jews are untrustworthy, while 68% of Israelis Jews expressed similar sentiments.

President Reuven Rivlin says Israel is not interested in a wider conflict with Hamas, during a visit to the Gaza frontier region. It suggested a demilitarized Palestinian state, Israel withdrawal to the pre-June 1967 lines with agreed-upon territorial swaps, a group of 100,000 Palestinian refugees being allowed to return to Israel, West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and east Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and an end to all future claims.

Israeli political scientist Tamar Hermann conducted the survey with Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki.

Palestinian security sources and local residents said the settlers arrived at the site on board a number of buses, and broke into the tomb amid protection by Israeli troopers.

While Israel was careful to avoid casualties (Hamas reported just 1-2 people physically injured in the strikes), it was an unprecedented response to a single rocket attack.

All other multilateral forums-American-led (Israelis 26%, Palestinians 8%), EU-led (Israelis 7%, Palestinians 20%), or UN-led (Israelis 12%, Palestinians 22%)-are acceptable to one side while unacceptable to the other.
