Israeli forces say shoot dead two Palestinian assailants

World’s busiest airport welcomes 100 millionth passenger

Later in Jerusalem, police forces fired tear gas to disperse several dozen protesters who were demanding that Israel hand over the bodies of Palestinians killed in attacks or during clashes with Israeli troops.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said the two Palestinians were relatives, one aged 17 and the other, 23.

She said the attacker was a 26-year-old Palestinian from annexed east Jerusalem.

An Israeli soldier was moderately injured early Sunday morning in a stabbing attack at the entrance to Jerusalem, close to the central bus station.

One Palestinian witness, Suhail Hamed, 39, said the police opened fire when the vehicle was 150 metres (yards) away from them. Police said they had “spotted a man who aroused their suspicions and approached him to check”.

Twenty Israelis and a USA citizen have been killed in a campaign of stabbings, shootings and car-rammings since the start of October.

Palestinian leaders say a young generation sees no hope for the future living under Israeli security restrictions and with a stifled economy.

Israel says the violence stems from a Palestinian campaign of incitement, but Palestinian authorities argue the violence comes from their frustration at almost five decades of Israeli military rule coupled with the collapse of US-sponsored peace talks.
