Israel shut its borders with Gaza in mid-2007 after Palestinian resistance faction Hamas wrested control of the strip from the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority.

Israel holds Hamas responsible for the attack, reason why it retaliated with four airstrikes conducted by F-16 jets, according to witnesses that say drones were also seen circling the airspace.

After two rockets were let go from Gaza towards Israel late on Sunday night, the Israeli Air Force reacted by focusing on dread foundation having a place with Hamas in the northern piece of the waterfront Palestinian region, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the air raid.

Earlier in the day, Israeli forces fatally shot a young Palestinian, identified as Fadi Samir Mustafa Alloun, near the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem), citing he was involved in stabbing of an Israeli illegal settler.

“No injuries have been reported”, it added.

Israeli authorities on Friday closed the Gaza Strip’s only functioning commercial border crossing, the Kerem Abu Saalem terminal (Kerem Shalom in Hebrew), for the Jewish Sukkot holiday.

A Salafist organization in the Gaza strip – the Omar Brigade, affiliated with Islamic State – claimed responsibility for the rocket fire which targeted Israel, according to Israeli media.
