The 70-page joint study by rights groups B’Tselem and Hamoked is based on accounts by 116 suspects interrogated at Shikma prison in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon between August 2013 and March 2014. The detainees are shouted at and spit on, are deprived of sleep and are provided little, substandard food, the report says. Palestinian detainees told the Israeli rights groups that they were at times exposed to extreme heat or cold, bound to a chair and denied access to a shower for days or weeks.

“The combination of conditions both in and outside the interrogation room constitutes abuse and inhuman, degrading treatment, at times even amounting to torture”, the report said. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.

The victim was a civilian at the Gush Etzion Junction, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, the IDF said.

An Israeli man was wounded during an attempted stabbing attack on Wednesday at Gush Etzion Junction in the West Bank.

Israeli officials say such demolitions could deter other Palestinians from launching attacks in a campaign that has killed 28 Israelis and a USA citizen since October.

The soldier fired at the assailant, striking both him and the captain, according to an initial investigation, the spokesperson added.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said last month it was “human nature” for Palestinians to react violently to Israel’s almost 50-year military occupation, as he urged a change in Israeli policy in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Shin Bet called the data in the report “misleading and distorted”, and said in a statement that all its interrogations were carried out “in accordance with the law and to prevent activities aimed at harming the security of the state”.
