Israeli-Palestinian Violence: Amid Christmas Celebrations, More Deaths Occur In West Bank
Rula Ma’ayah, Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, says many people have delayed visits to Palestinian territories out of fear.

Bethlehem Mayor Vera Baboun said earlier this week that only 40 per cent of hotel rooms were booked in the Biblical town this year, amid the recent wave of violence in Israel and the Palestinian areas.
The residents of Bethlehem did not rate it. Israeli coaches disgorge hundreds of passengers in Manger Square in the morning; after a quick tour, a souvenir stop, and perhaps a quick lunch, they return to Jerusalem.
Thousands of people were crowding into Manger Square, admiring the town’s Christmas tree and listening to holiday music played by marching bands and scout troops.
Hotel owners and vendors in Bethlehem have complained this holiday season of lagging business from travelers coming to the city for Christmas celebrations.
Israeli authorities said that three Palestinians were killed after they carried out or attempted to carry out attacks against Israelis across the West Bank. Since the beginning of October, fierce clashes have resulted in the deaths of more than 20 Israelis and more than 130 Palestinians.

Christians in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, are preparing for Christmas celebrations.
This year’s Christian festivities took place under the shadow of the Palestinian terror plaguing the country since September.
“In a world which all too often is merciless to the sinner and lenient to the sin, we need to cultivate a strong sense of justice, to discern and to do God’s will”, he said.
Most of those who came to Manger Square were Arab Christians from Bethlehem, other parts of the West Bank or Israel.
Travelling from Jerusalem nearby, the Jordanian Latin patriarch Fouad Twal would have had to pass through the Israeli wall that separates the two cities, with Bethlehem located in the occupied West Bank.
He hoped the Christmas celebrations this year would bring a message “of hope for all inhabitants of the Holy Land” and allow the church to “share joy with those who are suffering”.
At the Vatican, Pope Francis will celebrate mass at St Peter’s Basilica.
An Israeli-Palestinian peace deal will require compromises from both sides of the war, but even though talks of peace may have stalled for now, the light of peace still shines down in the holy site of Bethlehem.

But the modern day reality of the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict has led to a serious decline in the number of visitors.
