Israeli police: Palestinian killed after attempted stabbing
The upsurge in violence came after almost three months of attacks and protests but with the violence having become less frequent in recent weeks.

The four separate incidents came as revelers were gathering in the West Bank city of Bethlehem for Christmas celebrations, festivities that are being dampened by the latest outburst of violence. The Israeli military said the man, wielding a screwdriver, was shot dead after he tried to stab security forces.
Both of the victims suffered moderate wounds, police said.
The second Palestinian was killed near the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern West Bank.
Palestinian health officials identified the Palestinian woman as Mahdia Hammad, 38.
A third incident saw a Palestinian shot dead attempting to ram his auto into a military post near the Adam junction northeast of Jerusalem, the army said. Israeli fire has killed 124 Palestinians, 85 of them said by Israel to be attackers while the rest were killed in clashes with Israeli forces.
“The force responded to the immediate danger and fired toward the gunmen”.
“Police officers spotted a man who aroused their suspicions and approached him to check”, she said.
There’s been no letup in Israeli-Palestinian violence today.
A number of them have attempted attacks with kitchen knives in what some analysts have described as virtual suicide missions. Video footage of far-right Jews mocking the arson victims sparked outrage in Israel on Thursday and debate over whether the leak aimed to sway public opinion in favour of tough interrogation of several suspects who are in state custody. The driver was shot and killed by one of the officers during the attack.

Nearly daily stabbings, shootings and car-rammings by Palestinians have killed 20 Israelis and a US citizen since October. The Shin Bet, in a rare statement, denied on Thursday it had tortured any of the suspects and said “the lies were being disseminated in an effort to undermine the investigation”.
