Israeli police say bomb attack thwarted in Jerusalem

Officials have not said what aroused suspicion and led security personnel to interrogate the 20-year old from the West Bank, but during questioning the suspect told officers he was carrying explosives.

Police thwarted a potential terrorist attack in central Jerusalem on Sunday morning when they arrested a Palestinian man found to be carrying explosive devices near the capital’s busy light rail.

The channel reports that a bomb sapper who happened to be passing by heard cries of “terrorist” and ran over to help out and “take care of the bomb”, in the sapper’s words.

Police have closed off the main King George Street and Jaffa Street and are searching the area for further suspicious objects.

A security guard for the light rail noticed the suspect standing behind one of the pick-up points with a large bag. Bomb demolition technicians continue working to neutralize the explosives. As seen in the photos and videos, the incident resulted in the total closure of the area as well as cessation of light rail service.
