Israeli police shoot dead Palestinian man after alleged assault on police officer
Israeli security forces said they shot dead two Palestinian assailants on Saturday in separate incidents in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, as 12 weeks of heightened violence showed no sign of abating. According to a police spokeswoman, policemen approached a man who drew their suspicions just outside the Old City for following a pair of Jewish worshippers. “The terrorist whipped out a knife and tried to stab a police officer”.

Hours earlier police officers shot dead a Palestinian who tried to stab a policeman near Jerusalem’s walled Old City.
In all, over 20 Israelis have been killed in attacks, along with over 100 Palestinians, many of whom were targeted while carrying out attacks.
A soldier was wounded and forces responded, firing at the perpetrator, a statement said.
Israeli leaders blame the Palestinian Authority for incitement to violence due to religious motives, sparked by tensions over the flashpoint holy site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in east Jerusalem.
More than 120 Palestinians have died during this period, some during clashes with Israeli security forces, while others were gunned down after allegedly trying to commit attacks against Israelis. In October, Israel began withholding the bodies of suspected attackers as a tactic to crack down on the violence.
Palestinians have grown frustrated with Israel’s occupation, the complete lack of progress in peace efforts and their own fractured leadership.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that a Palestinian approached the Huwwara military checkpoint and “rammed his vehicle into security forces manning the position”, injuring one soldier.
The two police took a step back to avoid the attack while one of them fired at the assailant, killing him at the scene.
Her family, however, denied the Israeli allegations and said she was killed in cold blood, without posing a threat to the Israeli soldiers.

The Palestinian health ministry in the West Bank indicated that the dead man was a Palestinian whose identity was not yet known.
