“We have confirmed that a number of suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in Duma”, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.

Two Israeli men were shot and wounded by a member of the Palestinian Authority security force. Toddler Ali Dawabsheh was burned to death while his mother and father later died of their wounds.

The arson drew renewed attention to Jewish extremism and accusations that Israel had not done enough to address the problem.

A Palestinian Authority intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with protocol, said the shooter was a Palestinian intelligence officer.

The PA and Palestinian security forces have yet to respond to the allegation that the attacker is from their ranks.

Later in the day, in the northern West Bank, a young Palestinian woman who sought to stab a soldier near the Israeli settlement of Einav was shot and killed by the serviceman, the army said. One soldier and a civilian were wounded before security forces killed the attacker. He did not elaborate or provide a motive for the attack.

According to the IDF, the attacker drove to the checkpoint, got out of his vehicle and began shooting at Israeli soldiers on duty there.

The United Nations Special Envoy to the Middle East Nikolay Mladenov has expressed concern over the “slow progress” of the investigation into the firebombing attack believed to have been carried out by Jewish extremist settlers that killed a Palestinian child and his parents earlier this year. “Five months ago I was with you”, Trump said, pointing to his recent past as a much sought-after political donor who filled the campaign coffers of both Republicans and Democrats. Palestinian leaders and media have alleged that Israel intends to change the decades-long arrangements under which Jews are allowed to visit but barred from praying on the Mount – something Netanyahu has repeatedly insisted is not the case.

Security forces arrived at the scene on the capital’s Hanevi’im Street and transported the approximately 35-year-old victim to Sha’are Zedek Medical Center in the capital. Palestinians say the attacks stem from a lack of hope for gaining independence after years of failed peace efforts.

Early Thursday, the Israeli army demolished the home of a Palestinian accused of orchestrating the deadly shooting of an Israeli couple of October 1.

Trump didn’t back away from a statement he made to the Associated Press suggesting Israel might have to “sacrifice” to achieve peace with the Palestinians, though he did soften his tone in front of the passionately pro-Israel audience.
