Israeli policewoman dies in Jerusalem shooting; 3 attackers killed
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met with the families of Palestinians who carried out attacks in Jerusalem just hours after an Israeli border police officer was killed and another injured in an attack.

The attack happened after Israeli security forces stopped the Palestinians at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate. Authorities say they were attacked by three heavily-armed Palestinians, all of whom were killed. The dead officer was identified as 19-year-old…
Israel has deployed a series of measures in a bid to crack down on the violence, including sending troops to secure its cities, expanding police powers and toughening punishments for attackers.
According to the police, three Palestinian men, who were identified by the Palestinian news agency Ma’an as Ahmed Abou Al-Roub, Mohammed Kameel and Mohammed Nassar, who were all from the northern West Bank, arrived at the scene of the crime with apparently locally made “Carl Gustav” rifles, knives, and two pipe bombs.
The homes of the three attackers were searched and around a dozen acquaintances or relatives were arrested, they said.
An Israeli teenager was lightly wounded on Saturday in a stabbing attack at the Damascus Gate allegedly carried out by two young Palestinians, who were arrested in a sweep of the area later.
The member of the leftist Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) said preparations for another war have included rebuilding attack tunnels destroyed by Israel two years ago. And a second Israeli police officer was critically injured.
“Jerusalem shootout kills one officer and 3 Palestinian assailants” is categorized as “world”.
Reporting on the attack, CBS News used the headline ” 3 Palestinians killed as daily violence grinds on”.
The Jerusalem Post, citing an Israel Radio broadcast, reported that the leader of the pro-Iranian operatives, Hisham Salem, confirmed that they did operate in the West Bank and were expecting financial and military aide.
It’s the latest attack in a current wave of Palestinian terror.
The town of some 15,000 people in the north of the occupied West Bank has seen around 10 residents killed in the wave of violence that began in October.

Some analysts say Palestinian frustration with Israeli occupation, the complete lack of progress in peace efforts and their own fractured leadership have fed the unrest. It is still unclear if they were affiliated with one of the militant Palestinian groups.
