Israeli policewoman kills Palestinian stabber

The military says the Israeli shot and wounded the Palestinian before the man could harm him. They line up about 20 feet from the checkpoint out of Isawiyya.

“I think the difference with the attacks happening now is that they feel
very unpredictable”, she said. Almost all of them call home once they’ve passed the checkpoint, to let loved ones know they’re safe.

“It’s sad because it feels that it’s sort of hopeless”, Levkowitz said. “We don’t feel safe either”. It did not ask them to repeal the restrictions. Being checked, I feel humiliated, but what can we do?

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has requested such a move. “People are fighting alone”.

The Israelis were killed in random attacks in the street or on buses, and with parents demanding swift action to safeguard schools, cities have added more armed guards at their gates and police have increased patrols. The attacker was also killed. The attacks have been mainly committed by young Palestinians who seem to be acting on their own.

But the official Palestinian version of events doesn’t always match the account given by Israeli authorities.

The violence began on October 1, when a suspected cell of the Islamist movement Hamas murdered a Jewish settler couple in the West Bank in front of their children.

An inferno of widespread violence and instability has come to dominate the Middle East. As the Syrian and Iraqi conflicts have taken on a more tragic and unsafe dimension and Turkey faces civil strife, the old Israeli-Palestinian dispute is also on the verge of another bloody explosion. “This is a stepping up from knife attacks to shooting”. It did not mention a knife.

Later, another assailant tried to stab a policeman on the outskirts of Jerusalem, but struck his bulletproof vest and did not injure him.

Later, police said a Palestinian woman stabbed a female officer at a border police base in Hebron before the officer shot her dead.

A number of the wounded were police officers.

Police commander Yoram Halevy said the gunman had entered the secured bus station and used a pistol to kill the soldier and grab his assault rifle, which he then used to shoot others.

The attack was one of the most serious incidents amid near-daily bouts of violence that has hit Israel and the Palestinian territories over the past month.

Three residents of the village had killed three Israelis in two separate attacks in Jerusalem on Tuesday before being killed by security forces.

Israel, which has poured hundreds of troops into its cities and set up roadblocks in Palestinian neighborhoods of East Jerusalem, said that on Saturday four Palestinians were shot dead and a fifth seriously injured in thwarted knife attacks.

A man in the crowd said the march was a welcome counterpoint to the ongoing violence.

WAFA, however, casts the incident in a different light.

Kerry confirmed the meetings that were widely reported – German and Israeli officials had announced the Kerry-Netanyahu meeting late last week.

The teen reportedly attempted to stab the officer in Armon Hanatziv settlement, according to Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld.

Eight Israelis have died in attacks by lone Palestinians this month.

The violence has sparked fears that a third Palestinian intifada, or uprising against Israeli occupation, could break out.

Israel regards all Jerusalem, including the predominantly Arab east captured and annexed in 1967, as its “indivisible capital” – a claim not recognised internationally – and its right-wing government is wary of being portrayed as dividing the city.
