The demolitions came hours after two Israelis were shot dead in an apparent ambush near the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron on Friday in the most serious attack on Israelis in almost a month.

A Palestinian medic points to the spot where Israeli gunmen executed 28-year-old Abdallah al-Shalalda in a patient’s room at al-Ahli hospital in Hebron in the early hours of 12 November.

Fourteen were hit by live ammunition and five were struck by rubber bullets, the sources said.

On the Palestinian side 81 people have died, including one Israeli Arab. Many have been alleged attackers but they have also included protesters shot in clashes with the army. At least 75 Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces, including 45 people who were carrying out or about to carry out attacks.

The violence erupted in Jerusalem over tensions surrounding a holy site sacred to both Jews and Muslims and quickly spread throughout Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, a Palestinian teenager in Hebron succumbed to his wounds after being shot by troops a day earlier.

Israeli authorities say 50 of the Palestinian fatalities were involved in attacks on Israelis but Palestinians dispute this.

The footage, released by the hospital, showed about a dozen men entering a hospital ward, a few wearing fake beards and two dressed as women.

However, Israel disputes this and the Israeli foreign ministry has summoned the European Union ambassador to the country and said it would suspend diplomatic dialogue in the coming weeks.

The clashes erupted following the funeral of Mr Shalaldeh’s relative, shot dead during an undercover Israeli raid on a hospital in Hebron to seize a suspect in the stabbing of an Israeli. In another incident, soldiers clearing militant camps killed four insurgents, arrested one, and freed 61 captives, the Defense Headquarters said in a Facebook post.

The Israelis said the forces returned fire after the crowd threw rocks and rolled burning tires at them.

The organization also found that three-quarters of respondents believe “the expansion of settlements on the West Bank is a major obstacle to peace, ” with 72 percent rejecting the idea that Palestinians “have no legitimate claim to a land of their own”.

Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency confirmed the raid in a statement, saying that the man shot had “attacked” officers in an attempt to prevent them from arresting his cousin.
