Israeli Soldier Lightly Wounded in Gush Etzion Stabbing

The assailant dropped his knife and made a run for it, according to the Israel police account.

Three hours later, another gunman opened fire on an army patrol in southern Hebron, slightly wounding a soldier, the army said, adding that the unknown assailant fled after the attack.

Israel has returned the bodies of three Palestinians killed carrying out attacks, their families said Tuesday, in the first such handover in east Jerusalem in three months of violence.

The Gush Etzion junction has been the site of several stabbing and car-ramming attacks in recent months.

Israeli media reported that the killing of an Arab-Israeli taxi driver on the same day was connected to the attacks, but police would not confirm the information, citing a gag order.

Israeli forces detained at least 15 Palestinians, including six children, in multiple predawn detention raids across the occupied West Bank Wednesday, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in November vowed to expedite punitive house demolitions in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, which he said were “one of the most efficient tools” in discouraging Palestinian attacks.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said the victim was a 34-year-old man with light wounds to his face and arms.

Israeli security forces had earlier demolished and sealed off the Jerusalem homes of two Palestinians involved in deadly attacks against Israelis in the city a year ago. That does not include the two people killed in a shooting attack on Friday in Tel Aviv, as the motive for that assault remains unclear. Most of the others have been killed in clashes with security forces.

Palestine joined the ICC in April and already handed over two files documenting alleged Israeli crimes during 2014 Israeli Operation Protective Edge as well as Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
