The clashes at Qalandiya refugee camp that began late on Monday also wounded 10 people, said the Palestinian health ministry.
Two Israeli soldiers reportedly using a traffic app mistakenly wandered into a refugee camp in the West Bank overnight, sparking clashes which killed one Palestinian.
The Israeli army is to return West Bank land it requisitioned almost 40 years ago to its Palestinian owners in what a human rights group called an “extremely unusual” move.
More than 190 Palestinians, including children and women, have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of last October.
“I have always said that even if you use a navigation program, you still need to know how to navigate a map”, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said in a speech following the incident, Reuters reported.
The two soldiers were eventually rescued unharmed. It is a point of frequent violence between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops.
Yesh Din provided The Associated Press with the revocation orders. “We shouldn’t have to go to court every time”, he said.
The deceased victim has been identified as 22-year-old student Eyad Omar Sajdia. The Palestinians and worldwide powers have said Israel has often used excessive force against assailants, many of them youths.
“[Waze] includes a specific default setting that prevents routes through areas which are marked as risky or prohibited for Israelis to drive through”, Waze wrote in the AFP statement.
Somehow, the setting was disabled. The driver deviated from the suggested route and as a result, entered the prohibited area.
“There are also red signs on the road in question that prohibit access to Palestinian-controlled territories (for Israelis)”.

Waze navigation app, after being acquired by Google in 2013, incorporated a highlighting function that should have alerted the soldiers to their risky position, as well as refuse to provide directions through known unsafe routes, before they came under fire.
