ISS Astronauts On Spacewalk
According to Kenny Todd, the station’s Mission Integration and Operations Manager in Houston, the stall could have been caused by a stuck brake handle.

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly commanded the spacewalk, his third, and NASA astronaut Tim Kopra joined him outside.
Two astronauts took a surprise spacewalk outside the International Space Station this morning (Dec. 21) to unstick a vital piece of equipment and lock it into place before a resupply spacecraft arrives.
“Good news! It appears to have reached the work site”, astronaut Mike Hopkins in Mission Control told the spacewalkers a short time later.
The US space agency announced last week that an unplanned spacewalk would likely be necessary, and mission managers decided after meeting yesterday to go ahead with the outing today.
The mobile transporter rail auto carries the robotic arm from one location to another on the outside of the orbiting lab.
If the brake was somehow inadvertently engaged, it may be an easy task to unstick it. The astronauts may then turn to a few other get-ahead tasks as part of their ongoing maintenance and upgrades of the ISS. Kopra, who arrived on the station on December 15, will be making the second spacewalk of his career as extravehicular crew member 2 (EV 2) wearing the suit with no stripes.
With their primary task completed, Kelly and Kopra split up to work on separate tasks of routing cables along the space station.
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are performing an emergency spacewalk Monday to make critical repairs.

“This is a team effort”, Kelly said. Kopra arrived Tuesday, launching from Kazakhstan with Russian and British colleagues.
