It’s (almost) down to the voting in Iowa
(CNN)Ted Cruz started the month riding high in Iowa.

On the Republican side, Ted Cruz directed much of his final advertising against the Florida senator in the frenzied weekend prelude, feeding a Republican feud that turned increasingly bitter in the final days. It’s also half the viewership Fox News drew for the first GOP debate in August – the most-watched cable news event in history. The consistent charge: Cruz is a fake. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 10 percent.
“We’re not going to force it down their throat”, he said in the interview, later remarking to journalists: “You have to learn English”. Rubio, on the other hand, has increasingly ignored Christie as the New Jersey governor has fallen in the polls. Every candidate on that stage plus my golden retriever would make a better president than Hillary Clinton who, by rights, should be in prison come election time. “Jeb, please attack Ted”, he said. I’m sure that their motive was for ratings in what they figured would be a let’s-see-what-happens sequel between Kelly and Trump.
There’s “no such thing as an election violation related to frequency of voting”, he said, and insinuating otherwise is “not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa caucuses”.
“We know the votes that we need, we know the names, their addresses, their emails”, Roe said during a media breakfast hosted by Bloomberg Politics. “My focus is on talking to the voters directly and making the case to them that I have spent my entire life fighting to defend the Constitution”.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is telling Iowa voters he’s the only true conservative in the GOP presidential race who can be trusted to keep his word.
Donald Trump held court in New Hampshire Friday, while his presidential competitors in both parties hustled through Iowa in a last-minute scramble to win over fence-sitters before the state’s crucial caucuses.
But Cruz can’t seem to leave the pack behind.
A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll shows that Trump has overtaken Cruz by 7 points, leading 32% to 25%.
“I have a very good relationship with Fox, but when somebody doesn’t treat you properly, you’ve got to be tough”, he said at a rally in New Hampshire.
Cruz will do well there, but not as well as he should with church leaders’ near-solid support.
Speaking to supporters here, Rubio, a Roman Catholic, touted his anti-abortion views and his religious faith. Does this help or hurt Donald’s momentum going into Iowa? On ABC’s “This Week”, she said, “I feel vetted”.
So while Trump may be a favorite of Republicans who tune in for the debates, his decision to skip last night was definitely not in line with the audience. Even opponents of the wars in the Middle East have learned to distinguish between the wars themselves and the soldiers who fight them, often at great personal cost. Cruz pointed to an increase in attacks against him as proof that he still has strong political standing in Iowa.
Sensing an opening with evangelicals on cultural issues, allies of Mike Huckabee released an ad that hit Cruz over his stance on gay marriage. State Department officials said they would investigate whether any of that information had been classified at the time of transmission.
Immigration has become a critical issue for Florida’s freshman senator, who co-wrote a lengthy 2013 immigration bill that detailed a path to citizenship for numerous 11 million immigrants in the country illegally.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) placed fifth with 5%.

It was also the most-watched program on TV on Thursday night, Fox News said. “Examine our records, pray on it and I will be honored if you and your family will come caucus for us on Monday night”.
