‘It’s not over’, says Mertesacker as Bayern thrash Arsenal 5-1
Arsène Wenger lamented a dismal defensive performance from his Arsenal team, as they slumped to a 5-1 loss at Bayern Munich that left their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

Cech sifted through the wreckage of the Bayern defeat in the search for positives and he came up with a couple, namely Arsenal’s decent opening 10 minutes and how they kept fighting in the second half.
However, a 2-0 win has put Arsenal back in the running, although they have a long way to go to ensure they capture one of the top two spots in the group to progress.
Arjen Robben made it 4-0 on 55 minutes and though Olivier Giroud got a goal back for the visitors with a sweet strike, Muller had the last word with his second and Bayern’s fifth in the penultimate minute of normal time.
Arsenal FC are on the verge of exiting the Champions League after crashing to a record 5-1 defeat at FC Bayern Munich on Wednesday as Thomas Mueller netted twice.
Bayern Munich vs Arsenal 2015 (start time 11:45 am PST) is the UCL rematch of the week.
“Defensively we were extremely poor”.
Wenger said that the Gunners made it too easy for the bundesliga champions achieve after beating the Pep Guardiola’s men 2-0 at the Emirate two weeks ago. Going to 1-1 would have been really good for us but you have to say that Bayern played on a different level to us. “We have to realise that our chance is at a minimum”.
“That could have given us a little bit more confidence”.
“We have to win both our remaining games, and win by at least two goals when we play away at Olympiacos”, he said.
Arsenal must also hope that Olympiakos are beaten by Bayern when they visit the Allianz Arena on Nov 24, as one more point for the Greek club would be enough for them to reach the last 16, a predicament that Wenger conceded reflects very badly on his team. Now we are on nine points.
That may be feasible, but Arsenal are likely to need a far tougher two goal win in Greece after their 3-2 defeat at the Emirates.

Speaking on the Colin Murray show, he said: “Manchester City are already through, and while Manchester United aren’t scoring a lot of goals, they’re such a hard team to beat at the moment”.
