It’s Real: Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming First to PS4

Hopefully we’ll get more information during Square Enix’s press conference tomorrow. The developer mentioned that Final Fantasy VII will appear first on the PlayStation 4, something that indicates that the remake could find its way at other platforms including the PC at a later date.

It may be hard for younger gamers to believe, but when Final Fantasy VII was first released for the original PlayStation, its visuals were a huge selling point.

It’s been a long time coming, and fans of the game have been teased for years with rumors and other promises.

In case you’ve forgotten, the fateful E3 2005 Sony press conference showed the Final Fantasy VII tech demo that offered a look at the introductory movie running on PS3 hardware. In keeping with the PlayStation 4’s marketing through line, this was a show all about the games. Although its central characters are a brother-sister pair of new heroes, they’re joined by a roster culled from across the Final Fantasy franchise, ensuring there should be someone that appeals to players of all stripes. What is undeniable, however, is Final Fantasy VII will be a massive hit for Sony, but it could also bite them if it’s not done well.

This is coming from someone who literally wrote a 60-page analysis of Final Fantasy VII for her Transition Year project. Just when you thought Square Enix was learning to control its hubris. World of Final Fantasy is set in the world of Grimoire, filled with super-small but extra adorable mini versions of classic heroes.

The trailer was unbelievable so we have high hopes that we’ll all get to see the game on PS4 which will do justice to the legacy of the PS1 original. Instead, Square Enix focused on “Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix”, during 2014’s E3 event. It may bring fear. The gameplay footage indicates that the studio is perhaps further along than most anticipated although no release date has been announced.

Oh and there was also another Final Fantasy related announcement too – although it’s nowhere near the scale of the Final Fantasy 7 announcement.
