It’s you again! Jets bring back punter Weatherford

The Jets plan to sign veteran punter Steve Weatherford Saturday ahead of their Sunday game vs. the Patriots, per multiple reports.

Weatherford was cut by the Giants in early September when the team traded for punter Brad Wing from the Steelers.

Weatherford didn’t say who he’d be suiting up for and there weren’t any punters listed on any injury reports this week, so his new team was a complete mystery. After that game, and once Quigley returns, who knows what the future holds for Weatherford but there’s a good chance he sticks around as Quigley now ranks dead last in net punting.

Ryan Quigley, New York’s punter for the first five games, is dealing with a shin injury and is listed as questionable, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.

The 32-year-old played for the Jets in 2009-10.

In four seasons with the Giants, Weatherford averaged 46.3 yards per punt.

He averaged a net of 45 yards per punt on 16 attempts during the 2015 preseason. He was on 98.7 ESPN New York on Saturday with co-host Dave Rothenberg when Jets pro personnel scout Greg Nejmeh called him about the opportunity during a commercial break. He announced he would be signing with a team, but couldn’t reveal at the time where he was heading.
