It will now cost just $29 to fix a cracked iPhone

In the US, the iPhone 7 will sell for the same amount as the iPhone 6S when it was released – $649 without tax. But the cheapest 32GB iPhone 7 will cost 599 pounds ($799) in the U.K. That’s equivalent to a price hike of 11% over the iPhone 6S, which was available for 539 pounds. For a one-off fee, AppleCare+ will cover the cost of a couple of repairs or replacements from accidental damage. In case you weren’t familiar, Apple charged $99 for current-gen repairs, and $79 for previous-gen repairs.

Disregarding all those excruciatingly painful scratch, drop, and bend torture tests, which now includes freeze plus drop, screen damages are truly the most common reasons users bring in their smartphones for fix.

That’s significantly lower than the screen replacement deductible Apple previously had in place for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus; older iPhone models were subject to a $79 fee for each replacement.

The AppleCare+ plan will run customers $129 and cover two incidents of accidental damage, with screen replacement running $29 while all other repairs will cost $99, Apple said in its updated warranty.

Now just yesterday Apple announced their new iPhones, and while they did not publicize it, the folks at 9to5Mac noticed some changes made to the AppleCare+ program. For example, the iPhone 7 is now water resistant and able to survive drops in the toilet. Apple has long cited water damage as the biggest culprit for ruining iPhones.

If you’re buying a new iPhone, you should probably factor the extra cost of Apple’s optional device insurance, AppleCare+.
