Italian foreign policy chief Paolo Gentiloni told reporters that the ministry is cooperating with intelligence services to gather all the information, adding that it is hard to say exactly who was behind the kidnapping.
The group were taken on Sunday evening near an oil and gas complex in the western city of Mellitah.
“The crisis unit (of foreign ministry) began monitoring the case immediately and remains in continuous contact with the families of the four Italian national and the Bonatti company”, the statement said, according to Up Stream Online.
Four Italians working for a construction company have been kidnapped in conflict-torn Libya.
Italy closed its embassy in the north African country in February 2015 and urged its citizens to leave the country over the escalating violence.
