ITT Tech Abruptly Closes Campuses Nationwide Following Federal Actions

The company operates 137 ITT Technical Institute and Daniel Webster College campuses, and online programs collectively enroll some 40,000 students across at least 39 states, according to its most recent quarterly filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

ITT Technical Institute is closing all of its 130 campuses nationwide, after the Feds gave the for-profit vocational school a flunking grade.

Last month, the Department of Education stopped the school from allowing new students to use federal loans to pay for the college, which the company believes lead to their downfall.

The U.S. Department of Education is holding a series of webinars for students who were attending ITT Technical Institute when it abruptly closed this week.

“The closure of ITT Tech means the almost 7,000 student veterans using their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to finance their education can not complete their degree, even if they’re just a few credits short”.

“We have no way to get our transcripts”, said Amanda Powell, ITT Tech student. Last week, the Department of Education took oversight actions to prevent ITT from continuing to add to that risk. READ ITT TECH’S STATEMENT HERENorth Carolina’s Durham campus is among those shutting down.

The federal ruling blocked all federal student loan funding for the school.

The school’s 35,000 students, were informed of their misfortune by email Tuesday morning. If you miss payments, they could go into default and negatively impact your credit history. Officials are also providing Webinars for students to share information and address their concerns.

For students who had a degree in progress, current credits may not transfer because not all colleges and institutions have an equivalent program to ITT Tech. The government’s reasoning is that ITT Tech failed to properly get accredited by a government-recognized accrediting agency. An ITT student going by the name Willie, agreed.
